WIN! Hamper of six books from SA authors.

There is no such thing as a “best time time read” when you’re a bibliophile but there is something to be said for curling up under a blanket with a cuppa and hot water bottle during a cold snap. We’re giving away SIX books by great local authors, three fiction and three non-fiction, to help keep the winter blues away.

Deon Meyer is not only the crime fiction doyen of South Africa, but one of our greatest exports and you can own a signed copy of his latest novel, Icarus. Zakes Mda is one of the country’s most beloved literary figures and he’s signed a copy of his great African love story, Little Suns. Alastair Bruce’s Boy on Wire is part-thriller, part-elegy and tells the story of a man who tries to remember the death of his little brother, decades ago. Alison Botha’s harrowing and brave account of her rape and one of the most brutal attempted murders in SA’s history, I Have Life, has sold 90 000 copies and is now being turned into a film. Richard Steyn’s biography, Jan Smuts, explores the life of a key statesman in the country’s early history. Eusebius McKaiser’s frank discussions on race in Run, Racist, Run, has been one of the highlights of non-fiction since it’s publication.

  1. Wooohooo mad respect to you for posting about books & such an awesome giveaway.
I would love to read the Deon Meyer book first.

  2. I’d definitely start with “I Have Life” because I’d like to read it before the documentary comes out in August. My mom has the original edition, but I was too young to read it then. Deon Meyer would be up next, as his books are a great way to escape!

  3. I’d love to read the Deon Meyer book first. I bought it for my friend for her birthday and she loved it, so now I’m also keen to read it!

  4. Deon Meyer first. Then the rest of the pile in order they are stacked 🙂

  5. Wow! I have not seen such an exciting book giveaway in a long time! 🙂

I would definitely read Zakes Mda’s Little Suns first because I went to the CT launch for this book and when he spoke of it – it made me want to read it even more. Another reason why that book is my 1st choice is because I really enjoy Zakes Mda’s writing and I think he is a real LEGEND when it comes to story telling! 🙂

  6. Fantastic! I’ve always wanted to read Alison’s story. So inspiring!

  7. I have read I have life and I will read it again. Never has a book touched me more deeply and more spiritually. I love to read. I have gathered strength from Alison story. Her resilience is strong and her attitude stayed positive.
